On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco of the Local Unit of Bujumbura-Burundi met in one of the halls of the School Saint Michel Archange in Bujumbura.
The meeting was structured in 6 presentations: the Salesian Family of Don Bosco, the World Confederation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco, the
Projects of the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco, the detection and development of children’s talents, the Solidarity and Mutual Aid Project between the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco and connex projects of sustainable development.
After discussing these different presentations, the participants drew the following conclusions: (1) Continue the animation to gather as many members as possible, (2) Group the members into commissions of projects for working in activities of youth education and mutual aid of synodality and connex projects, (3) Invest considerably in the project of creating a school belonging to the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco (4) Except the friends, the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco are called to support the activities in their past salesian schools to show their gratitude to Don Bosco, (5) Gather the Young Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco (GEX) in income-generating activities for making them operational, (6) Create a Polytechnic center to make operational the technical theories acquired within the Salesian technical schools of Rukago and Buterere, (7) (7) Seek foreign partnerships, collaborations and twinning to strengthen, professionalize and perpetuate the projects of the Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco and (8) A next meeting is set for January 25, 2025 to launch the first possible projects.
At the end of the meeting, the past pupils and friends of Don Bosco met with some of the children who are benefitting from an educational project which has been running for five years.
