ACODOSAH – 3rd Annual Fundraising Gala
On May 23rd, 2020, the Alumni Association or
ganized its 3rd Annual Fundraising Gala to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco. It was a special family reunion, where we reminisced about our experiences as former students. We also reiterated the vision, mission, and goals of the Alumni Association to our audience, reported our accomplishments for the past year – despite political turmoil in our dear country Haiti -, and delivered a range of activities and projects leading up to 2021. The most exhilarating part of this commemoration was the opportunity to celebrate each other. We sang and danced in a virtual cultural party, where many of our great artists performed.
We were humbled and honored to be surrounded by a village of distinguished guests and speakers. Among those in attendance were our Provincial RP Jean Paul Mésidor, RP Victor Auguste, the president of the Confederation of Past Pupils President, Mr. Michael Hort, former Teachers, friends from other Salesian organizations, ACODOSAH members, and friends of Don Bosco.
As highlighted, 2019-2020 has been challenging, but we were proud
to name, among our modest accomplishments, the creation and legalization of “IMPACT”. The IMPACT initiative is a program that provides scholarship to disadvantaged young boys and girls to attend school for a brighter future, but most importantly, to help them along the way to become “the light for the world and the salt for the earth “ as they remain “good Christians and honest citizens.” Additionally, as COVID-19 hit Haiti, we distributed masks and hand sanitizer kits to the Salesian community to educate and protect our students (and their families) from the pandemic.
During the gala, we had an award ceremony to recognize and thank our spiritual advisors, donors, and those from the committee who have volunteered for ACODOSAH’s cause and financially support the Salesian educational and social work. Our celebration ended with a special ceremony “passing the torch” on to the Haitian Team, designated to host our 4th Annual Gala in May 2021. The countdown has already started!
Our historic celebration has made us grateful and eager to give back even more to our communities and to continue transforming the ordinary into extraordinary.
