The 2026 Salesian Family World Advisory Council (Consulta Mondiale), held at Valdocco in Turin from 20–23 May, brought together leaders and representatives of the various groups of the Salesian Family for days of prayer, reflection, dialogue and discernment centred on the vitality of the Salesian charism today.

A central theme throughout this year’s Consulta was an in-depth reflection on Don Bosco’s Preventive System and its continuing relevance in the third millennium. Through presentations by Fr Rossano Sala and Fr Michal Vojtaš, participants explored how the principles of reason, religion and loving-kindness remain the foundation of Salesian education, leadership, governance and pastoral service in a rapidly changing world.

The Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, challenged participants to deepen their understanding of Don Bosco as a man of the Spirit and to embrace the Preventive System not simply as a method, but as a way of life leading to holiness and authentic pastoral charity. He reminded the Salesian Family that its mission remains that of educators and evangelisers, accompanying young people with credibility and hope.

The Council concluded on the eve of the Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians with a renewed commitment to live and promote the Salesian charism in educational and pastoral settings throughout the world. Participants returned to their countries inspired to be ever more effective signs and bearers of God’s love among young people.

Reflecting on the significance of this year’s gathering, World President Bryan Magro stated:

“This year’s Consulta focused on a profound reflection on Don Bosco’s Preventive System as we prepare for the 150th anniversary of its publication in 2027. The insights and discussions shared during these days will help Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco across the world to deepen their understanding of this extraordinary educational and spiritual heritage. This preparation is particularly meaningful as we look forward to celebrating this special anniversary together with the World General Assembly in 2027, renewing our commitment to live and promote Don Bosco’s vision in today’s world.”

The 2026 Consulta therefore served not only as a moment of communion and formation for the Salesian Family, but also as an important milestone on the journey towards the celebrations of 2027, inviting all members of the Salesian movement to rediscover the enduring relevance of Don Bosco’s Preventive System for future generations.
